ShoeDazzle Haul

OMG shoes!
Remember this song? This song is totally about my current state of mind.

I'm obsessed with shoes now.

I joined ShoeDazzle back in 2009, but finally made my first purchase in January 2012. Now I'm asking myself why did I wait so long to make my first purchase? I loved the first pair so much that I went back and got two more pairs of shoes! To me, $39.95 is affordable and do-able. I was afraid of the quality and fit of the shoes, but to my surprise all the shoes I've bought from ShoeDazzle have been comfortable, good quality (for the price), and very unique.

Elena

This isn't the first pair I bought, but it's definitely my favorite so far. It's not my usual taste, but I really liked the design of the shoes, and I decided to get something different to spruce up my rather drab shoe collection.

Ciji

This one was the least comfortable of the three shoes, because it rests right underneath my ankle bone. However, I found that wearing inserts eliminates that issue.

Akira
I love these boots, but the heel is pretty high. I wear heels everyday and actually had to be careful walking in these boots. They are really cute worn over jeans.

What do you think of ShoeDazzle?
I'd love to hear what you think and/or bought!

What To Do Before, During, and After a Juice Cleanse

So you want to start juicing?
Then you'll want to read this!

In my opinion, success comes with planning, but you have to be open to the fact that things may come up.  Situations may arise and you may have to make some adjustments.  For example, I went out with coworkers for happy hour and I cheated, and had a salad with dressing on the side while everyone else drank.  I guess that wasn't the best example, but I could have just taken everyone's advice to drink wine since it's made from grapes and is a "juice", but I didn't!

By all means, I am not a juicing guru nor do I want to be, but I've been asked by many about my juice cleanse and how I did it.  So read on if you want my advice on juice cleansing.

**Contact your physician or a healthcare professional before considering any diet if you have a history of health issues, complications, and/or illness.**

PRE-JUICING ROUTINE
1 Week prior: Increase your intake of vegetables and fruits (perferably green vegetables rich in micronutrients).  I suggest eating a salad before you have your main course for lunch or dinner. Visit http://www.jointhereboot.com/ for great juice recipes and to educate yourself about juice cleanses.

Cut out ALL caffeine.

3-4 days prior:  Replace 1 meal with a juice.  I replaced breakfast and lunch with a green juice (store bought juices, V8, and Naked Juices don't count).
2 day prior:  Prepare a juice plan.  If I were to do another juice cleanse, I would stick to the the same plan for the entire cleanse.  I started my mornings with my "Morning Zinger" (a fruit juice with ginger) to energize me.  Then I had a green juice for lunch, followed by a different variation of a green juice for dinner.  I had 2-3 juice options as snacks to help curb my appetite when I had cravings or was hungry.
1 day prior:  Look at your juice plan and purchase enough produce to last you 2-3 days.  It's better to buy less than to buy more. That way you don't waste produce.

DURING YOUR JUICE CLEANSE
Prepare yourself mentally:  Listen, you're definitely going to have some cravings, but you can have as much juice as you want, so you shouldn't be hungry. Cravings, yes; Hunger, no.
Do not make your juice more than 4 hours in advance:  I recommend that you have freshly juiced juice in order to reap the full benefits of juicing. However, that's hard to do when you are work during the day.  So what I did, in my situation, was juiced in the morning right before I left for work. I would make my morning zinger and my lunch juice and put them in 28oz Blender (Protein) Shake Bottles.  You will notice that it does not take very long for the juice to separate when you store your juice.  Having it in these bottles made it convenient to shake them back to a homogeneous state.
Don't tempt yourself:  If you have little self-discipline, avoid temptation at all costs!  Make sure, you have a juice you can always sip on in case you feel the urge to eat something. If you're going to cheat, then cheat by eating some snap peas, carrots, raisins, or fruit.

AFTER YOUR JUICE CLEANSE
Don't celebrate with a big feast of solids:  The longer you've been on a juice cleanse, the harder your body may react when you reintroduce solids (especially meat) back into your system.  So instead of just diving in, dip your feet in a little bit and have a small meal with healthy foods.  My first meal was a baked chicken with a hearty serving of green beans and red bell peppers.
Accept the fact that you will gain some weight back:  People who have gone off juice cleanses typically gain around 5lbs back.  Just know that you will gain some weight back.

Juicing does not replace water. Make sure you drink 6-8 glasses a day!

Like I said, I'm not a juicing guru, so I suggest listening to what your body is telling you feels right or wrong.  Juicing has helps me overcome a weight loss plateau and has increased my energy level.  It's a wonderful holistic experience that I found be beneficial in many ways - mind, body, and soul.

Remember, Google is your best-friend. If you want to know something, just Google & use some sound judgment.

Ciao!

p/s My next post will NOT be about juicing!

END of Juice Cleanse & Favorite Juice Recipe

I voluntarily gave up on day 7 of my 15 day juice cleanse...

I know, I know...
I failed!!

I was honestly not discipline enough to complete my juice cleanse. I wanted to eat and so I did, and it was good, real good. Until I had diarrhea! Note to others considering juicing: do NOT just jump back into eating food without prepping your body for it. I would highly recommend that you transition back to solids by first eating raw fruits and vegetables and then gradually add other foods.

Overall, the juice cleanse has been a wonderful holistic experience. I feel healthy, energetic, and ready to start and maintain a healthy lifestyle from this day forth. I'm glad I did it and I will do it again in the future, but not anytime soon because it was rather expensive to do. I wasn't anticipating to spend $250 on 7 days worth of juicing. That's not including the price of the juicer and I didn't go organic. I still have some stuff left that I need to juice, but juicing is just expensive to do, period. If there were coupons on produce, I would have used them in a heartbeat.

I'm sure most of you are wondering...
How much weight did I lose?

BEFORE 128lbs / AFTER 118lbs
TOTAL LOSS = 10lbs

ONE DAY PRIOR TO JUICE CLEANSE:

6 DAYS INTO JUICE CLEANSE:
(NO stomach sucking.)

DAY 7:
(I live in Minnesota. It's cold here.)

TIPS FOR THOSE CONSIDERING A JUICE CLEANSE:
  1. Prep yourself BEFORE and AFTER a juice cleanse. Before: Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables one week prior to the cleanse. Three days before, replace a meal with juice. After: Transition back to regular solids food slowly.
  2. Drink LOTS of water. Just because you are juicing doesn't mean you can just not drink water. You still need to drink lots of water or you'll get constipated.
  3. Continue to floss and brush your teeth at least twice a day. A lot of the juices can be acidic if you add citrus fruits to your juice, so make sure you wait at least 30 minutes before brushing your teeth after drinking a juice as to not strip your teeth enamel away. Trust me, you will want to brush your teeth often! Juicing dries out your mouth and you tend to get bad breath.
  4. Don't just have fruit juices. Sneak vegetables like cucumber, celery, carrot, spinach, and kale into your fruit juices. You don't want to get a sugar spike! The only time I would say it's okay to have an all fruit juice is in the morning (just to give you a little oomph to start your day).
  5. If you must cheat, cheat by eating a salad with the fruits and vegetables you would have otherwise have juiced. I cheated and had a salad with salad dressing. I know, I'm a very bad girl...

My dinner tonight:
Garlic buttered & herb chicken with a side of green beans and red bell peppers and a small serving of avocado salad.

I was NEVER lethargic during my juice cleanse!
I was NEVER hungry either. I just had major cravings.

My FAVORITE juice!
aka Morning Zinger
I'm going to have this juice for breakfast EVERYDAY cause I love it that much.
I noticed I would be bouncing off the walls whenever I had this juice for breakfast, hence the name "Morning Zinger".

2 Granny Smith Apples
1 Golden Delicious Apple
1/2 Pear
1/2 Lemon
10 Strawberries
1 Orange
1" to 2" piece of Ginger
1C Coconut Water

OPTIONAL: 1C Spinach (Will be a lot darker than pictured. Looks really murky but tastes great and has more nutritional value. )

Ciao!!

JUICING: Day 3 of 15 (Short Post)

I've made it to day THREE!

So far, so good, and I'm feeling great!

This should last me about 3-4 days of juicing:

Breakfast, lunch, and mid-day snack...

I'll do a beauty related post shortly.

Ciao!
